In this week we learned about ethical, moral, and legal responsibilities of an interior designer. We also learned how we have to protect the environment and other things around like power usage, water, and light. As designers were asked to create a space that is safe for people, safe for the environment, ensure regulations that would protect the people coming in and out of the space, and also pleasing. We learn about the dangers and precautions there is in any material, and how they can affect us without noticing.
An important thing we learned about was Building Information Modeling (BIM) a new method of building design. A three dimensional computer is constructed that includes rich data from all subcontractors to see and locate any problems before the building is constructed. Because this model incorporates structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and other information during the design process. That is not the only reason why it can be more effective, it can also be less costly than finding out in the field, and help reduce errors. It also can be used to generate materials take-offs, pricing information, energy modeling, and many other services. It includes all major components organized and less cost effective.
Another important thing we learned is teamwork. The US Green Building Council (USGBC)'s, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) practice teamwork to be successful. What makes LEED Rating Systems work is having multiple stakeholders present in the decision-making process for a building from the beginning. There a couple different specialties in LEED you can achieve which are Building Design and Construction (BD+C), Interior Design and Construction (ID+C), Homes (Homes), Operations and Maintenance (O+M), and Neighborhood Development (ND). The highest level an accredited professional can achieve, LEED Fellow, is only awarded to those who have made significant contributions to the industry over a sustained period of time.
One part of the school I enjoy is in the building HAWAC. The cafe they have in the entrance makes me feel welcomed and relaxed. I like how they have space for people to still walk around and be able to hangout or sit by the cafe. I also like how the big windows bring in light and as you look on on top the design of the stairs and the floors adds a different level of perspective.
Nice post 50/50 points
